A little happiness in the centre of Hamm – the „Vintage Wohnhaus – Café |Interieur | Mode“, or: Here you can not just get something on your plate, but also for your soul.
You do not believe in love at first sight? Then you haven’t been to the Vintage Wohnhaus. The moment you open the door to the guest room, you’ll be surrounded by the smell of freshly ground coffee and homemade cake, in a magical wave of people and things that make the world a little more beautiful. This is not a place to enter, but a place to arrive.
It is a café of a different kind – full of warmth of heart and with many loving details that you would love to have at home. Here, the guest room has a collection of old and new furniture, which in its diversity forms a harmonious arrangement with individual personality. Lots of art and creativity on the walls, in shelves and showcases complement each other. Fancy cross ties, delicate necklaces, textile creations, sculptures and pictures, decorations that you don’t really need, but which you just want, your eyes can’t get enough. The shop is anything but overloaded; objects are selected and limited, just like the small but tasty menu. Besides cakes, there are breakfast dishes and also a small lunch – something hearty, something sweet, the mix is just right.
One is tempted to find oneself transported in an adaptation of Amélie’s fabulous world, the French cinematic fairy tale with wonderful illusions and ideas. But whereas main actress Audré Tautou is dark-haired and virtual, Tanja Prill on the other hand has red-blond hair and is real indeed. The quick-tempered artist is the initiator and hostess of this café, which is actually a lot more than just a cafe. It is an oasis of pleasure, a get-together and at the same time a gallery whose exhibits can be purchased. It is part of a whole and an expression Tanja’screativity, and also of artists she is connected with and who exhibit their works here also.
When Tanja leased one of the oldest houses in Hamm, she was looking for a place for her art, her creative projects and at the same time a place for exchange and sociability. Her vision was and is not to provide art in an elitist manner, but to make it available and experienceable as part of the everyday world. That is why there are studio rooms on the first floor, directly above the café, which Tanja shares with two artist friends. Here, under the “Label Grüne Tür 35”, artists don’t just produce their own works, but also invite art lovers to get involved. The range of workshops on offer can be found on the website or can be requested directly from Tanja. The café itself is a wonderful symbiosis where people and creativity meet. Of course, cultural events are also held here on a regular basis, and rooms can be booked for external events.
By the way: The fact that the Vintage Wohnhaus is located in the art quarter „Martin-Luther-Viertel“ adds to its own charm. This area is the creative hotspot in Hamm, where many creative people “let off steam” and offer a lot of urban art. For those who enjoy more contemplation, you may visit the Gustav Lübke Museum, which is just around the corner. You see: There are many reasons to get closer to Hamm. However, there is only one Vintage Wohnhaus that you you simply have to fall in love with.
