Creative Workshops at Atelierhaus Gruppe Elf Bochum
Discover the artist in you - a visit to the workshops of the creative community "Gruppe Elf Bochum" makes your vacation really colorful
Do love the aesthetics of colorful worlds? Do you like the smell of fresh paint, and maybe also appreciate the tactile sensation of when your hands glide over canvases, wood and metal? And maybe you even like to become active and create? Even when you’re on vacation?
If that sounds like you, you belong to the free spirits for whom the Ruhr area is virtually predestined. Urban life and creativity are part of the spirit of Bochum in the heart of Germany's largest extended urban area. Although the university city offers two large and renowned cultural institutions, the theatre „Schauspielhaus Bochum“ and the Anneliese Brost Musikforum Ruhr, it is the distinctive and active free art scene that sets the pulse of the city.
This also includes the protagonists of the "Atelierhaus Gruppe Elf Bochum e.V.", a community of artists and artisans who call the Altenbochum district home. When it was founded in 2012, there were eleven members, today 14 creative people work in their studios. The composition of the community is diverse: self-taught artists as well as trained creative people are equally represented.
The variety of genres is also very unusual for a studio house. Illustration, painting, goldsmithing, woodcarving, airbrush, soapstone and glass bead art, as well as sewing studios offer a multifaceted repertoire, which in turn sets a high standard. This arrangement offers a wonderful reason for a visit.
That's why the doors of Velsstrasse 19 don’t just open on the first Friday of every month, on "open studios" day, but also regularly host creative events, such as workshops and vernissages. The coummunity is also open for unusual events like a pop-up café for "Restaurant day" or musical storytelling evenings.
What more can be said - there’s so much lifeblood in the (in)sound of the city. For this reason, it is also great fun to attend one (or more?) of the various workshops offered by the artists, and thus become part of the creative family for a short time. No matter if you prefer to swing a brush, want to get to know woodworking with sharp wood tools, or prefer to make filigree jewellery, the time spent in the studios will offer something enjoyable for everyone, and even give you your own work of art to take home before you throw yourself back into city life, or explore its green corners with a bike.
You can choose from a range of workshops, or you can simply join open workshops to discover and develop yourself and your skills. You can also contact professional illustrator and board member Wibke Brandes, who is a loving and experienced contact person. Let's meet and explore the world of arts together... Let’s meet and discover the creative world!
